membershippageHow does First Redeemer Church receive new members?

By profession of faith in Jesus Christ and your desire to be baptized by immersion.

By baptism by immersion

By transfer of your membership
from another Baptist church.

By your statement of faith
that you have accepted Jesus and have been baptized by immersion.

Why is formal membership important?

For the individual

  • It indicates a Christ-likeness. Jesus is committed to the church. Acts 2:47 says, “…and the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” Overwhelmingly, in the New Testament, when the word “church” is used, it is referring to the local church. So, those who were being saved were being included in the membership of the local church. Ephesians 5:25 says, “Christ loved the church, and gave His life for her.” Being committed to a local church through membership pleases God and indicates a Christ-like spirit.
  • It demonstrates a Biblical world view. Popular culture says to us, “Don’t commit to anything – job, marriage, family, and even church.” Church membership goes against this tide and says, for this time in my life, I am going to belong to this local body of Christ-followers.
  • It promotes spiritual growth. Spiritual accountability is a recurring theme in the New Testament. Its purpose is to make us more like Christ. Such spiritual growth takes place best in the environment of a loving, local church.

For the church

  • In a very practical way, membership identifies and defines who can be entrusted with positions of leadership within the church
