Higher Ways Part 3 – August 29, 2021

Example: The zipper

Genesis 13:1-7 (NIV2011)
1  So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, with his wife and everything he had, and Lot went with him. 2  Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold. 3  From the Negev he went from place to place until he came to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier 4  and where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the LORD. 5  Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. 6  But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together. 7  And quarreling arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s.

Genesis 13:7-8 (NIV2011)
7 The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time. 8 So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives.

Harmony among God’s people is vital to a Godly witness

It underscores our passion for a shared mission
Example: 9/11

Genesis 13:8-9 (NIV2011)
8  So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”

Peacemakers are willing to be last
Application: Love for freedom

Galatians 5:13-15 (NIV2011)
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

Example: Jesus
Philippians 2:3-8 (NIV2011)
3  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4  not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6  Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7  rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8  And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Genesis 13:1-4 (NIV2011)
1  So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, with his wife and everything he had, and Lot went with him. 2  Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold. 3  From the Negev he went from place to place until he came to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier 4  and where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the LORD.

Peacemakers cherish God above all else
Example: The man who found treasure

Matthew 13:44 (NIV2011)
…in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
