Heaven is the place where believers dwell with Jesus forever

Zechariah 14:5 (NIV2011)
Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.

Key events of Jesus’ 2nd Coming:

He returns to the Mount of Olives (Zech. 14:3-4, Acts 1:9-12)
He defeats the Antichrist and his allies at Armageddon (Rev. 16:16, 19:19-21)
He binds Satan for 1000 years (Rev. 20:1-4)

Revelation 20:1-4 (NIV2011)  
1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain.  2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years.  3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. 4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Jesus will reign over the earth from Jerusalem for 1000 years
(Rev. 20:1-4, Isa. 24:21-23, Ezek. 37:26-28)

And we will reign with Him:

Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him.

The Millennium will fulfill God’s promises

5 “The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.
6 In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The LORD Our Righteous Savior.

Application: Why we trust God’s promises

The Millennium will redeem creation

People will enjoy longevity and health

Isaiah 65:20 (NIV2011)
20 “Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; the one who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere child; the one who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed.

Isaiah 33:24 (NIV2011)
24 No one living in Zion will say, “I am ill”…

Nature’s curse will be lifted

Isaiah 11:6-9 (NIV2011)
6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. 7 The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. 8 The infant will play near the cobra’s den, the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
9 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

The world will experience unprecedented peace and prosperity

Isaiah 2:4 (NIV2011)
4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.

Isaiah 32:18 (NIV2011)
My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.

Isaiah 30:23 (NIV2011)
23 He will also send you rain for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will be rich and plentiful.

The world will be joyful

Jeremiah 30:18-19 (NIV2011)
18 “This is what the LORD says: “ ‘I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents and have compassion on his dwellings; the city will be rebuilt on her ruins, and the palace will stand in its proper place. 19 From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing.

God is for your good

The Millennium will reveal the depravity of the human heart

Revelation 20:7-8 (NIV2011)
7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison
8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.
