BEATITUDES P2 WHAT IS TRUE SPIRITUALITY?

What is true spirituality?  How would Jesus describe it?  What does Jesus have to say about living a life that answers our deepest questions, and give us peace, joy, and hope?

The sermon on the mount is a sermon to and about Jesus' followers.  It's not a sermon that describes those who do not follow Jesus already.  It describes 'be'atitudes vs. 'do'atitudes.  The blessed life Jesus' describes in this sermon isn't about what to do to be happy, but it's describing trait's of those who are His followers and are therefore happy already.

Sometimes life's comforts can numb us into not realizing our spiritual deficits.  Just because things are going well, doesn't mean life is going well spiritually and morally.  Culture tells us to make our own answer key; that matters of morality and spirituality are all subjective.

Luke 18:10-14 (NIV2011)
10  “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11  The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.
12  I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13  “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14  “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
